Crypto.com customer accused of $7M spending spree granted bail

The judge said that imprisonment wasn’t necessary because Jatinder Singh couldn’t flee Australia without his Indian passport.

The Crypto.com client was unexpectedly remitted $6.95 million from the trading center in 2021 and is reported to have gone on a trading frenzy. Although $2 million in assets are still missing, he has been granted parole in Australia.

At the Victoria's Secret County Court, prosecutors tried to persuade the presiding judge on March 20th that imprisonment was undoubtedly the only way to ensure that Jattinder Singh would not escape easily from the country.

In May 2021, a Lithuanian worker accidentally transferred 6.95 million US dollars to his account instead of the 100 US dollars that should have been returned, which was also incorrect for Crypto.com. It is reported that the Sydney man used this large sum of money to buy four houses and a car and sent some of them abroad.

According to a report in the Herald Sun, prosecutors argued that Singh escaped from the country because he recovered only $4.9 million because of economic development.

Of the $2 million missing, more than $1.45 million is said to have been transferred to Singapore, the court hearing said.

Senior police officer McGregor Healy told the presiding judge that Singh was "probably entitled to unrecovered loans", while prosecutor John Botteros argued that Singh created an "unacceptable" risk of escape because she lived without a visa, had no relatives in Australia and was laid off before being arrested.

But Judge Toni Holder felt that was not enough to put Singh in jail. In turn, he explained, it would be enough to take Singh's Indian passport visa and prevent him from applying for a new passport at the Indian embassy:

If there is a standard is that he does not have a passport, or he did not apply for a passport. How did he manage to escape from the country?

Singh and his lover, Sevamanogamo Manieville (Thevamanogari Manivel), a user of an asset-transferred bank account, face a series of theft charges.

Both men explicitly pleaded not guilty to the charges. Once again, they claimed that they took it for granted that they received $7 million according to the Crypto.com competition.

Although the incident occurred in May 2021, it was not discovered until the annual audit report in December 2021.

Since then, the company's headquarters, the Singapore cryptocurrency Exchange, has been sued by the Supreme people's Court of Victoria's Secret to recover the damage.

The Pennsylvania Supreme people's Court ruled that the assets must be returned to the company.
