Interpol wants to police metaverse crimes, reveals secretary general

According to Stock, criminals have started targeting users on platforms similar to the metaverse, adding that “we need to sufficiently respond to that.”

The International Criminal Police Agency (ICPO), or Interpol, is dealing with how to control the behavior of individuals committing crimes in virtual places. However, an Interpol executive feels that there are problems in defining crime in the virtual world.

According to BBC, Jurgen Stoke, director of Interpol, revealed that the agency is determined to regulate crime-themed activities in the virtual world. Stoke elaborated on the ability of "mature and professional" criminals to adapt to new criminal technical tools.

Nearly four months ago, Interpol pulled up its own virtual world at the 90th Interpol Exchange Conference held in New Delhi in October 2022.

During the issuance period, the public notice reads:

With the growth of the number of users in the virtual world and the further development of science and technology, the criminal details of the possibility can only be extended to include crimes against young children, data information theft, money laundering, financial fraud, counterfeiting, extortion viruses, phishing attacks and sexual assault and sexual assault.

According to Stoke, the molecular structure of crime is now targeting customers on platforms similar to virtual worlds, adding that "we should respond adequately to this." However, the organization faces difficulties in defining crime in the virtual world. The technical and innovative Executive Director of Interpol, Madan Oberoi, made it clear:

There are some crimes I don't know if they can still be called crimes. If you look up the definition of this crime in the physical space and try to use it in the virtual world, it will be difficult.

In addition, he revealed that Interpol is also facing a test to raise awareness of possible incarnations of crime.

On the premise of entering the virtual world in October 2022, the organization set up a professional department to crack down on login password crimes.

Before that, Interpol issued a bright red notice for the arrest of du Quan, founder of Terraform Labs, to law enforcement agencies around the world in September.
