A spokesperson for Bulgaria’s chief prosecutors has denied claims that the investigation was prompted by the company’s political donations.
According to local reports, a spokesman for Bulgaria's chief prosecutor, Sikamileva, denied the political motives behind the investigation into Nexo, a password lending company. This kind of evaluation should be a response to the statement that the relevant investigation is related to the company's political and metallurgical contributions.
Mileva said that the vast majority of investigators who conduct investigations that endanger the economic benefits of others will lead to attacks and charges. "attacking these institutions has become a national fitness sport," he added.
On January 12, a group of prosecutors, investigators and foreign agents searched the company's offices in Sofia, the capital of Beijing, Bulgaria. The purpose of this action is a large-scale money laundering program and its violation of Russian international sanctions.
Less than 48 hours after the raid on Nexo's offices, four people were tested for money laundering, tax crimes, computer fraud and unlicensed credit business. The two men will be released from prison with a ransom of almost $550000. In addition, the two men are still missing in Bulgaria and have been declared international suspects. At this stage, it is not clear whether the group is connected to this login password company.
According to Mileva, the turnover of Nexo reached US $94 billion in five years. The spokesman stressed that an organized crime group was conducting investigations in a number of countries since the beginning of 2018.
On Twitter, Nexo complained about the raids by law enforcement agencies and said he was preparing to sue and demand compensation for damage caused by the sudden termination of the police. The company classified the authorities' approach as "kick first, ask later".
According to the company, investigators did not give a search warrant or reveal their identity to Nexo employees within hours.
Nexo operates a wealth management platform on which users can place bets and raise money to encrypt data. Although the company has a service office in Bulgaria, due to hidden control problems, the company does not provide assistance to residents in the host country. The company was founded in 2018 and has service offices in the UK, Bulgaria and Germany.
In December last year, Nexo said it would gradually withdraw from US business processes, mainly because of a lack of established regulatory collaboration with US authorities.
