Sam Bankman-Fried’s lawyers request extension for bail condition proposal

According to the legal team representing Sam Bankman-Fried, prosecutors had no objections to continuing his bail conditions until the firm could choose a suitable technical expert.

A lawyer for former CEO Rob Bankman-Fried, who represented FTX in federal court, asked for an extension of a proposal related to his bail conditions.

In a filing with the United States District Court for the South District of New York City on Feb. 24, Mark Vorster of Cohen&Gressler Law firm stated that the legal and regulatory elite team hopes to submit a proposal for bail conditions for Bankman-Fry by March 3, and then find a suitable candidate to serve as a senior expert in the case. Lawyers allowed an authoritative expert to be hired at the February 16 hearing, which discussed the use of virtual private networks (VPN) by the former top FTX CEO.

"efforts have been made to verify candidates for the post of technical engineer of the Supreme Court, but suitable candidates have not yet been identified," the filing said. " Similarly, there have been pragmatic discussions about the additional bail conditions of Bankman-Fried, but I hope there will be more time for such discussion.

Vorster added:

"the state has no problem with this regulation," he said. Neither of them resists the implementation of the current bail conditions of old Mr. Bankman-Fried at all times during the period of such exploration as the court considers appropriate.

Judge Lewis Kaplan proposed that he be able to raise additional restrictions on Bankman-Fry 's $250 million bail after reporting on SBF's VPN on Jan. 29 and Feb. 12. The former CEO's defense lawyer claimed that he used the technology to watch football matches, but still allowed Bankman-Fry to deactivate VPN until the court ruled on the matter.

Since his arraignment in December 2022, SBF has been somewhat restricted to his parents' home in California, but has been taken to court several times and subjected to judicial proceedings related to his bail conditions. Court documents show that the former FTXCEO tried to contact former FTX employees using a data encryption information application. Judge Kaplan also hinted at the complete revocation of SBF's parole, which could lead to federal detention until a criminal trial in October.

On February 22nd the court issued an alternative civil indictment against Bankman-Fried, which included 12 judicial charges, rather than the eight charges he initially faced on December 13th. The civil indictment includes discussions on the implementation of fraud by financial institutions, as well as small details of his alleged illegal political donations-the use of wheat straw donors to give a cumulative "tens of millions of dollars".
