Toyota to Experiment With Blockchain Use Cases by Sponsoring Astar Network's Hackathon

The auto giant may use technology developed from the hackathon to increase its business efficiency.

Toyota, the car mogul, has delved deeper into the test cases of blockchain technology, sponsoring the Web3 hackathon on the multi-chain intelligent contract Internet Astar Network, which could create visualization tools for Toyota employees.

Developers will build a dedicated tool for decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO) within the enterprise on Astar Network-- one of the first isolated chains in the Polkadot ecosystem-- which will enable Toyota to make business decisions and team collaboration more effectively. "in the course of the event, we hope to develop and design the first proof-of-concept DAO tool for Toyota employees," Astar Network founder Sota Watanabe said in a statement.

He added: "if a good special tool is made, Toyota employees will interact with Astar Network every day." He stressed that although this is an exploration link, the blockchain technology in the car has a certain possibility in the future.

In line with Web3's thematic style, the hackathon will be held in the COSMIZE Affairs Service Room, the first illusory world on the Astar Internet.

This is not the first time Astar has partnered with a large Japanese company. Astar allows developers to build interoperable distributed applications (Dapp). Last November, NTT Docomo, one of Japan's largest mobile network technology companies, said it would work with Astar Foundation and Accenture to accelerate the selection of Web3. In December last year, Astar was also selected as "Commodity of the year" by the Japanese blockchain Association.

According to DefiLlama, Astar Network has a total TVL of about $42 million, of which nearly $17 million, or 40% of TVL on the decentralized trading site AlthDex. According to CoinMarketCap, ASTR is the local dynamic password for the Internet, up about 50% this year, with a total market capitalization of $234.5 million.

Toyota has been trying blockchain technology for some time. In 2020, the auto giant revealed that it was exploring blockchain technology in the automotive industry based on a group of several subsidiaries.

Since then, the automaker has not taken any major steps on the technology, although other company leaders have jumped into irreplaceable new token projects, data encryption payments and virtual reality integration during the hot cycles of 2021 and early 2022.

Naming the hackathon would mean a more important step forward in Toyota's experiments in blockchain technology and implicit Web3 integration. "Toyota expects Web3 to support its vision of improving business operations, and the online hackathon is the first step in this process," the statement said. "

The move comes at a time when Japan's current Web3 policy has been put into operation this year as politicians are eager to abolish stereotypes and the usual slow management process. The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Light Industry (Ministry of Economic Development and Industry) is now equipped with the Office of Web3 current Policy Company. In November last year, Chinese digital units said they would create a DAO to explore Web3 technology.
